As you soon as you enter the circular cobbled driveway, with the imposing Art Deco palace to the left and sprawling landscaped gardens falling towards Dalat’s Xuan Huong Lake to the right, you know that this hotel is special. Step into the foyer, with its huge fireplace, mosaic floor and soaring ceilings, and it’s confirmed. 1920s grandeur is maintained throughout all 43 rooms.

Each one is elegantly and meticulously maintained with special touches, including original black bedside phones, colonial furnishings and embroidered mosquito net above the bed all adding to the romantic ambience. The bathrooms feature hand-painted tiles and a large claw-footed bathtub with antique-style fixtures. Le Rabalais restaurant serves French food in a divine setting, with French doors opening out onto a terrace overlooking the lake. Larry’s Bar, named after Larry Hillblom, the American entrepreneur who was responsible for the hotel’s restoration, is the perfect spot for a game of billiards or a night-cap. The hotel also has its own 18-hole golf course, ranked as one of Asia’s best.
